Oakland Airport Airfield Planning Study
LMA completed biological and wetland impact evaluations for 15 alternatives for expansion of runways at the Oakland Airport involving both wetland and bay fill and mitigation. A GIS (Geographical Information System) was used to evaluate acreages of wetlands and bay affected. LMA facilitated a community involvement program for runway expansion planning at the airport. The committee overseeing the project included cities, local citizen groups, environmental groups and agencies. LMA facilitated the meetings discussing this controversial project and received praise from all parties for a balanced and fair approach.

Pala Band Reservation Gravel Pit Reclamation, San Diego County
LMA is providing oversight of implementation of a negotiated agreement for reclamation of a gravel mining site on the reservation of the Pala Band of Mission Indians. LMA reviews all aspects of the project, mediates any disputes between the parties and facilitates regular meetings of the tribal representative, Bureau of Indian Affairs representative and gravel company representative.

Parsons and Morrison Creeks Riparian Restoration, Mendocino County
This project integrates the monitoring of several potential limiting factors for riparian growth groundwater levels and channel geomorphic processes, with experimental plantings of dormant willows in trenches. The project demonstrated that groundwater levels along these tributaries of the Russian River have been highly affected by the incision of the main stem of the river from the Coyote Dam and that restoration of these areas requires specialized techniques. LMA designed the project, completed CEQA review and permits for this project and oversaw implementation and post-project monitoring.

Port of Oakland: 50-foot Channel Deepening Project
LMA worked closely with the environmental department of the Port to produce public information brochures and illustrations for their restoration project at Middle Harbor and the Vision 2000 development and harbor dredging. This complex Port project involved industrial development, dredging and reuse of dredged material to restore habitats, the creation of a shoreline park and the reuse of the closed naval base next to the Port. The public information component required taking technical and scientific information and creating easy-to-read and illustrated materials to assure that decision-makers and the public understood the project.

Russian River Tributary Watershed Stewardship and Monitoring Program, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties
This project involves extensive community outreach and the coordination of landowners/residents to form stewardship groups for the tributaries of the Russian River. As part of this watershed stewardship program, LMA developed an assessment and monitoring program workbook for citizen/landowner based stewardship groups. LMA prepared the workbook, which allows landowners and community volunteers to evaluate their watershed and create an atlas of its natural features, history and land uses. The workbook outlines how to establish a monitoring program for stream conditions, erosion problems, riparian corridors and water quality. LMA, in conjunction with the Sotoyome RCD, trained volunteers for the program, monitored parameters including water quality, siltation, channel form, bed composition, riparian corridor density and diversity and the presence of invasive species at stations on eight tributary systems, identified projects for erosion control and restoration and completed detailed watershed assessments. A summary report was produced in 2004.
